Computers excel at automating tasks that would be tedious to perform by hand, such as finding all occurences of the B-A-C-H motif and its transpositions in the complete catalog of Johann Sebastian Bach. music21 is a freely available Python library that has been created with such musicological tasks in mind. In this workshop, we will introduce the library as one example of a variety of tools in computational music analysis, an emerging transdiscipline between computer science and musicology. Bring your own laptop! Counts towards credit for Modul 5 "Professionalisierung" and can be combined with other workshops from the same series.
