Aimed at players of musical instruments with an interest (but not necessarily prior experience) in digital music making, this workshop provides an overview of foundations and possibilities of digital music technologies. Participants will acquire hands-on, practical skills in this domain by exposure to various open-source software packages. We will discuss the basics of digital audio editing, production & synthesis; digital music notation formats for communicating artistic ideas among musicians and machines alike; and recent technologies that will shape the future of music & audio on the web. Bring your own laptop (preferred over tablets) and, if available, your best pair of headphones.
