DT// Welche Bedeutung hat Geschichte für die tänzerische Praxis? Welche Praxis ist
Geschichtsschreibung selbst? Wie entsteht sie? Anhand welcher Quellen können wir etwas über Tanzgeschichte erfahren? Entlang zentraler Themenfelder historischen Arbeitens und übergreifenden Themen wird exemplarisch in die Tanzgeschichte eingeführt und das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten, Lesen und kritische Nachfragen, Analysieren und Schreiben geübt. Tanzgeschichte wird dabei nicht nur als ein ästhetisches Phänomen betrachtet, sondern als ein von politischen, sozialen und kulturellen Dimensionen geprägtes. Das Seminar möchte zwar auch bekannte Beispiele Bühnentanzes des 20. Jahrhunderts diskutieren, zugleich möchte es Fragen aufwerfen, wie sich dies in internationalen und globalen Perspektiven jeweils kritisch befragen lässt. Über das Offenlegen, das Geschichte etwas Gemachtes ist, kann die Auswahl kanonischer Werke befragt werden.
EN// What is the significance of history for dance research and performance? What is the
practice of historiography? How is it constructed and therefore can be reconstructed? How
are dances classified, performed, and interpreted by various social institutions and cultural
contexts? How do choreographies reflect, embody, and re-inscribe histories of colonization
and nationalism? How do dancers as subjects of history respond, challenge, and contribute to social and political formations? This seminar deals with central questions, themes, and key words regarding historical work and aims to introduce dance histories through an exploration of a variety of cases, source materials, scientific analysis and critical inquiry. It aims to contextualize dance history not only as an aesthetic phenomenon but also as one that has been, and continues to be, shaped by political, social and cultural discourses and ideologies. While the seminar discusses well-known examples of artistic stage dance of the 20th century, it also raises questions about how they can be critically interrogated in international and global perspectives. The course aims to enable students to learn about a variety of dances, artistic and social values in global historical contexts; search for and interpret historical sources on dance; analyze dance history through a cross-cultural perspective; and develop and deliver an independent research project.
